I heard a saying once that went something like this: "You can polish a turd, but in the end, it's still a turd." That's the best way to describe this film: a turd with polish.
Why? First, there's the main character we're supposed to root for: a pregnant girl who's a chain smoker. Real sympathetic. Second, there's the fact that the Angels are the bad guys. Instead of watching over us they possess people to do their bidding, curse them, use foul language and brutal violence to serve their means. Lastly, there's Dennis Quaid. Never has an actor who used to be talented sucked so badly. In fact, if the movie was watchable, I'd say rent it just to see how low an actor can stoop. But alas, dear friend, this film is far from watchable.
I'm giving this one a 0.5 out of 10. The half point is because of the polish.
Language: Pretty standard R rated fare, except that Angels are using the F-word which is very off-putting.
Violence: It's horror-lite. Nobody's eating guts, but lots of gunfire and blood.
Sex: None.
Positive Themes: Don't go there.
Negative Themes: Murder, blasphemy, child neglect, infant endangerment...need I say more?
