E's Favorites: Kill Bill

The first of many segments here on The Blog, I'm digging up the content and grades on a few of my favorite flix...period.

Up first, one of my favorite directors made a set of films with enough style and pizazz to choke a horse...or a Weinstein. Tarrantino's Kill Bill Volumes 1 & 2 are at once classic, iconic, western and martial arts. QT's love of down and dirty films from the 70's is truly on display here as we watch the, never more enjoyable, Uma Thurman seriously kick butt and send The Crazy 88's packing, or bleeding--and that's just volume one. Volume 2 gives us the awesome Pai Wei sequence and Uma's fantastic return from six feet under.

I'm giving Volume One a 9 out of 10 and Volume Two an 8 out of 10. Let's hit the stats:

Language: As per usual it's rife with graphic language.

Violence: QT outdoes himself here. It's over the top and gloriously bloody.

Sex: An Anime sequence and an attempted rape with a delightfully revenge filled end.

Positive Themes: Uma is a loving mother despite being an amazing assassin. Uma's Bride character in general is pretty positive in many ways including strength, ability, common sense and a strong role model for women.

Negative Themes: Murder, back-stabbing, lying, greed and molestation.
